SUNPAK PZ42X Camera Flash Unit Review
The SUNPAK PZ42X is a compact flash gun with plenty of power to play with. It has a impressive guide number of 42m. The compact size of the SUNPAK PZ42X has meant that the control section has been slightly comprised. Having a average screen size in relation to the competition leads to the buttons being the biggest losers, as there are only two to scroll through the options. Getting to the correct settings takes a little time as a results, and missing the desired option can lead to a length go-round. The rest of the flash belies its size by offering up some superb build quality and recharge times.
The absence of button locks puts all the more trust in that the swivel and bounce will remain in place. Sunpak have clearly recognised this , as the PZ42X is tricky to shift by accident and takes a certain amount of pressure to get into the necessary position. The diffuser continues the theme, being simple to put into place , but difficult to dislodge. In a similar move to the Jessops an impressive amount of rotation is offered to the point where the usefulness is brought into question. The head, much like the rest of the body is robust and well put together, feeling far weightier than many of the larger options.
Recharge times are impressive, almost instantaneous. The Main advantages of the SUNPAK PZ42X are it is very compact, well built and surprisingly powerfull.
The main disadvantages are there are too few buttons, tricky to find correct function and no button lock.
The SUNPAK PZ42X not only takes up less space in the camera bag than many of the opposition, but it outperforms most as well.
