Canon EOS 400D Rebel XTI Review

The Canon eos 400d is a 10.1 mega pixel camera, supports CompactFlash memory and has a 18-55mm lens.

Many industry expert have placed the credit, or blame for the recent boom in DSLR purchases squarely a the feet of Canon. The aggressive marketing of the 350D and its successor, the Canon eos 400D has lead the Eos range to become the most popular DSLR series currently on the market. Popularity can come at a cost, however as trying to tick all of the boxes to satisfy the majority market can lead to a dumbed – down and overly simplistic end product.

The look of the Canon eos 400d certainly maintains all of the classic SLR elements. A wide enough body to ensure everything can be gripped with confidence and enough weight to feel as substantial its film based predecessors, it makes for a retro-looking camera. Turing the Canon eos 400d round reels a plethora of buttons and controls, most of which are accompanied by abbreviations or symbols that can often be a little more cryptic than is necessary.

Only the selection of buttons has really altered as the same Picture Style button that made an appearance on the Canon eos 40D has cropped up on the Canon eos 400D. Sitting in the centre of the d-pad it avoids forcing the rest of the controls to be reshuffled and can be duly ignored when necessary.

A large part of the success of the Canon EOS 400D's controls is thanks to the intelligent use of the rear screen in the absence of a top LCD. Being simplistic enough to only require a quick glance, minimising the amount of extra screens required to alter a setting, the amount of time taken to make a change be prepared to take a shot is minimal. For the amount of time used the LCD serves its purpose.

Image quality is impressive and versatile, the automatic white balance and aperture adjusted perfectly for the environment . Flesh tones were warm and complimentary, and the focus was intelligent enough to adjust for the white background, concentrating on the subject. The Canon eos 400d covers the majors bases easily

Overall the Canon eos 400d it is a simple to use , all round impressive camera that will serve as an excellent step up in the DSLR market.
